Castle is proud to support woodworking education. In today’s challenging labor market, it’s more important than ever for us and others to invest in developing talent and to recognize woodworking excellence.
The first part of our Education Program is our ongoing, 15% product discount. We offer this to qualified/accredited educational institutions and programs.

Castle’s 2022/2023 Competition for Woodworking Education Students and Programs
Showcase your woodworking talents and craftsmanship and submit your Woodworking Project for a chance to WIN:
Grand Prize*Individual Entry: Castle 110 Pocket Cutter. This will be awarded to the student, whether in high school or in a secondary educational woodworking or vocational program, who submits the winning entry.
Grand Prize*High School Program/Class: TSM-12 Pocket Cutting Machine. This will be awarded to the high school program or class who submits the winning entry.
Grand Prize*Secondary School or Vo-tech Program/Class: TSM-22 Pocket Cutting Machine. This will be awarded to the secondary educational woodworking or vocational program or class who submits the winning entry.
Open for Entries: September 1, 2022
Entry Deadline: April 15, 2023, at 11:59PM
Winners will be announced May 15, 2023.
Rules:
Three separate prizes will be awarded in three separate categories:
- Individual: a Castle 110 Pocket Cutter will be awarded to the winning entry from the student that is currently enrolled at either a high school, a secondary woodworking program/class, or a vocational/technical program or class.
- High School Program/Class: a Castle TSM-12 Pocket Cutting Machine will be awarded to the winning entry from a high school program or class.
- Secondary School or Vo-tech Program/Class: a Castle TSM-22 Pocket Cutting Machine will be awarded to the winning entry from a secondary woodworking program/class, or a vocational/technical program or class.
Entries: The competition is open to all accredited high schools, secondary educational woodworking and vocational/technical schools AND their students that are in the US or Canada. It’s free to enter. Please make sure read all the rules before submitting your entry and photos of your project. Submissions that do not follow the rules will be removed from the competition.
Enter the contest by filling out the following form, “What’s your angle? Entry Form”. Please email the completed form and photos of your project to whatsyourangle@castleusa.com. Photos should include one to two overall pictures of your woodworking project along with pictures showing your use of screw pocket joinery or your "innovative" use of screw pockets. Please do not submit more than six pictures of your work. Photos should only jpg or png files. Please make sure photos are no larger than 2.5mb each. Files too large or movie files will be automatically deleted. Incomplete submissions will not be accepted. Judging of your project is based on the photos you post, so make sure they are good quality photos.
Projects can only be entered ONE time, either in the individual category OR a program/class category as listed above. However, you can have one project entered as an individual and a second project can be entered into the program/class competitions.
Schools/programs and students must reside in the United States or Canada to be eligible. Projects from schools/programs and students of countries outside the USA and Canada will not be accepted.
At least 75% of the submitted piece(s) must be done in wood.
All projects must have been created within the last 12 months and created in the school/program/class shop.
We will not accept unfinished pieces or projects in progress.
Judging:
Entrance to the competition will close on April 15th, 2023. Our team of judges will choose the overall winner on May 15th, 2023.
Judging consideration will be given to:
- Overall look/presentation of the project
- Most effective use/most innovative use of screw pocket joinery
Again, make sure you send good quality photos and make sure the entry form is complete. We will be contacting winners by phone and require a valid phone number where you can be reached. If you are a winner and cannot be reached or do not respond within 72hrs, we will offer your prize to another contestant.
